Bonjour Nos Amis,
Today was what we call a day off in Paris. Mitch got to go and do whatever he wanted and I did the same. So we were in Paris together yet separately. We always like to make sure we each have time alone whether on vacation or at home. Since we only brought the one camera, I took some photos – not too many today – and Mitch just described what he did.
I took the metro to the Chatelet stop and walked from there to the Seine. I purchased a Batobus pass and decided to ride the boat for a few stops. For those who don’t know, the Batobus is a river boat that works like a bus but on the river. It has 8 stops along the Seine and you can get on and off as you like. They have several boats so the wait is never too long. You can get off and explore, then get back on and go to the next stop. It is a great way to see the city from the river. I decided only to ride for a few stops and enjoy the beautiful water and cool breeze. Paris has some of the most amazing bridges that I have ever seen. There are 37 bridges spanning the Seine in Paris proper and each has its own unique design. You could spend the entire day just looking at the bridges as you pass under them. Along the way if you look up you will also see some of the beautiful architecture that lines the Seine on both banks and the two islands. I took some shots of Notre Dame, the Louvre and Hotel De Ville which houses the Mayor of the city and local administration. It is a spectacular building with a very long history. I got off the Batobus at the Louvre and made my way across the Tuileries to l’Imperial Cafe for lunch. I had a simple but delicious hamburger with fries. I then purchased an International Tribune and went back to the Tuileries where I read the entire paper while enjoying the gorgeous weather for two hours. It was so wonderful. I then made my way back to our flat, went to the gym and met Mitch back at the flat at 6 where we then went to dinner. Wanting to turn in early because we are going to Versailles tomorrow, we planned on a quick dinner at Felicie which was suggested by our friend Amelie. 2 hours later we were just finishing up – and that was with no appetizers. God we love the French. I had the duck steak with a pepper sauce and roasted potatoes and Mitch had the Hamburger Provencal which included grilled eggplant, grilled zucchini, tomatoes confit and pesto sauce. Both were amazingly good. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse and Strawberries with vanilla bourbon ice cream and whipped cream. OMG! is all we can say.
For Mitch’s day, he went to our favorite Bolangerie in the 7th arr. where he purchased a savory tart and a chocolate eclair and an extra baguette. He went to the park and sat in the grass and ate his lunch while sharing the baguette with the birds for 3 hours. He just relaxed and enjoyed the sounds of the city – our favorite city. Then he went to the Gym and worked off all that salted caramel ice cream!!!
